Footprints in our Hearts
"They bring magic into our lives and leave footprints in our hearts
And we are never, ever the same."
THEY ARE ALL GREATLY MISSED
AND WILL BE IN OUR HEARTS FOREVER!
"They bring magic into our lives and leave footprints in our hearts
And we are never, ever the same."
THEY ARE ALL GREATLY MISSED
AND WILL BE IN OUR HEARTS FOREVER!
They say memories are golden - well maybe that is true.
I never wanted memories, I only wanted you.
A million times I needed you, a million times I cried.
If love alone could save you, you never would have died.
In life I loved you dearly. In death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a place no one could ever fill.
If tears could build a stairway and heartache make a lane,
I'd walk the path to heaven and bring you back again.

My Dakotah - "My Soulmate"
March 31, 2000 - December 22, 2007

I first laid eyes on Dakotah in May, 2000. He was five weeks old and he had the most exquisite colouring. As one cat show judge described, Mahogany (dark red) on Peach.
Cindy Stelmaschuk (AnTarCin Maine Coons) was the sire's breeder and she wanted to see the litter and I tagged along with her just to get my kitten "fix" (not being a breeder). I wasn't planning on a new addition to my menagerie.
When we arrived, I saw the cutest red and white boy trying to beat up on his two sisters...we laughed and sat down on the floor. The kittens were curious and trundled over to where we were sitting. The little red and white boy crawled up on my lap and stayed there, curling up and going to sleep. Here he is at five weeks on my lap.
A few weeks later we went back to see the fur babiers again. By this time the kittens were running all over the house. We sat down in the living room and watched them rough and tumble. Then, all of a sudden, the little red and white boy came over to me, hopped up on my lap and went to sleep, purring loudly.
I thought "Do I really want this cute little guy" (I hadn't planned on a new additon to the household). The answer was a definite "Yes"! He had picked me and by the time we left, he was mine!
The rest is an amazing history. I showed him in TICA (the International Cat Association) as a kitten and and adult over two seasons and he became a Regional Winner for both. He received his SGCA (Supreme Grand Champion Alter) after three shows as an adult. The next show season he went full throttle and ended it with a Seventh Best International Alter and Best International Maine Coon Alter, which gave him his Lifetime Achievement Award (LA). I retired him from showing shortly after.
He loved kittens that came to our household. He would "mother' them and was very gentle. He was the epitome of the "Gentle Giant" - all 25 pounds of him!
Dakotah died very suddenly at age seven, from a blockage of the bladder....it was so devastating. It's so hard to believe he's not with us any longer...although, sometimes I turn around quickly and see him sitting there, looking at me, but only for a moment.
Dear Dakotah...we miss you terribly, but you'll be in our hearts forever. We will meet you again "over the Rainbow Bridge" along with our other well loved fur babies that have left us before.
All our love, hugs, purrs and headbutts, Dakotah...'til we meet again.

You are loved and in our hearts always
Weep not for me though I am gone
Into that gentle night.
Grieve if you will, but not for long
Upon my soul's sweet flight.
I am at peace, my soul's at rest
There is no need for tears.
For with your love I was so blessed
For all these many years.
There is no pain, I suffer not,
The fear is now all gone.
Put all these things out of your thoughts,
In your memory, I live on.
Remember not my fight for breath,
Remember not the strife.
Please do not dwell upon my death,
But celebrate my life.

THE LAST BATTLE
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this.....the last battle.....can't be won.
You will be sad, I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
With love and laughter and, yes, tears.
Now, you wouldn't want me to suffer, so,
When the time comes, please let me go.
Take me to where my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me until the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree,
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail it's last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do,
We’ve been so close....we two....these years,
Don’t let your heart hold any tears.

This is my daughter's Tribute to Misty
A year ago I had to put my best friend of twelve years to sleep. It was one of the hardest things I ever had to do. Misty was one crazy cat...and extremely talkative too! As a kitten, she was a Holy Terror...zipping up curtains and doing back flips in the air when she played. She was an indoor cat, but once we tried to take her out on a leash. She loved the outdoors, but disliked the restraint. So we kept her in. She would often sleep in her sunbeam by the window, curled up and purring in the warmth. She always greeted us at the door, and proceeded to carry on conversations with us with her friendly, expressive "meows". Misty was an amazing escape artist and daredevil, too! She just wanted to be outside. Twice she escaped from my second story window, onto the fence, to go gallivanting in the neighbourhood, returning happy and healthy each time. Once she climbed a ladder to the second story plant ledge, but we had to help her down. Even a week before her passing, she pulled a Houdini Trick...she was returning from the vet, still heavily sedated. I stopped in at my parents house for a short period and left her in her travel cage in the car. When I returned, she had escaped and was wandering around the back seat! That girl sure had determination! Everyone that ever met Misty loved her. She was very sociable and loving. She was a loyal friend that seemed to sense my emotions. She helped me through some of the most challenging times of my life. When I was in despair, she comforted me and cuddled up with me. She has seen me grow from a teenager to a young woman, through the good and bad times. The unconditional love we receive from a pet is a gift that is very sacred. I will miss Misty a great deal. There is an emptiness in my heart now that she is gone. Macska, my 4 year old kitty also misses her company. But I know that Misty's spirit is free to run and explore the outdoors, and she can search out her sunbeams in a happier world, a world free of pain and suffering, a world of beauty...over the "RAINBOW BRIDGE". Thank you Misty, for your love and kindness. Enjoy your freedom and the sunshine!
Love Always, Kaura
